Taylor Swift Bio

Taylor Swift, now country music's latest prodigy was once just a homely girl born and raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.  She is the first child and only daughter of Andrea Swift, a homemaker, and Scott Swift, a stockbroker. At age nine Taylor Swift she discovered her writing capabilities when she won a national poetry contest with a three-page poem entitled "Monster in My Closet".  When she turned 10, Swift began writing songs and singing them at karaoke contests and festivals near her Pennsylvania hometown.  She perused her writing career at age 12 by devoting an entire summer to writing a 350-page novel, which still remains unpublished today.

When Taylor was 12 years old, she became acquainted with a computer repair man, who began to teach her how to play the guitar.  After being taught to play three chords, she wrote her first song, “Lucky you”.  From there, she began to focus heavily on learning guitar and began writing songs frequently.   She used her song writing as an outlet to help her vent out her frustration from not fitting in with other children at school.  When children would mistreat her, she would write songs about them.  This became her source of motivation.

When Taylor turned 13, she made her first trip to Nashville, hoping to obtain a record deal by distributing a demo tape of her songs.   After Swift returned to Pennsylvania, she was asked to sing the national anthem at the U.S. Open tennis tournament, which was her first major performance.  When Taylor was 14 she performed at The Bluebird Café, Nashville's songwriters' venue, where she caught the attention of Scott Borchetta, the President of Big Machine Records.  He signed her to his newly formed record label and she became the youngest staff songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Tree publishing house.

Swift released her debut single, "Tim McGraw", in mid-2006, which reached #6 on Billboard magazine's Hot Country Songs chart.  She then proceeded to release her self-titled debut album October 24, 2006. Her album spent eight consecutive weeks at the top of the Top Country Albums charts.  Taylor’s "Tim McGraw" music video won her the Breakthrough Video Award of the Year at the 2007 CMT Music wards.  Taylor’s second single from the Taylor Swift album, "Teardrops on My Guitar", was released February 24, 2007. In mid-2007, the song peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.  In October 2007, Swift was awarded The Songwriter/Artist of the Year by the Nashville Songwriters Association, making her the youngest artist ever to win the award.

Swift's latest studio album, Fearless, was an even greater success than her first one.  It released on November 11, 2008 and has made several accomplishments since. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. The album’s sale of 592,304 copies in the first week was the highest debut of any country artist in 2008. Also, during the first week of release, more than 129,000 copies of Swift's album were sold online, giving her the best online start for any country album in history.  Taylor’s lead single on the album, "Love Story" became a hit on both the country and pop charts.

In January 2009, Swift announced her North American Fearless Tour planned for 52 cities in 38 states and providences in the US and Canada over the span of 6 months.  The tour kicked off April 23 in Evansville, Indiana. While on her Fearless Tour, Swift made her first musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live and performed at the 51st Grammy Awards.   Because Taylor Swift’s Fearless Tour was such a sold out success, she announced the tour would return to North America for 37 additional dates in 2010. provides premiere tickets for all of Taylor Swift’s tour dates!
